She was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Edna, to the late Tildon and Rosa Lee Arnold Childs. She graduated from Huston-Tillotson College, Texas Southern University and College of the Mainland. She was a retired school teacher for Edna ISD after 42 years of service. She was a real estate broker for Callis Real Estate and a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors: daughters, Beverly Jean Campbell and Cynthia Thornton, both of Texas City; son Dwight D. Callis of Needville; sister, Mary Harris of Edna; and six grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Isaac Callis; and parents.
Visitation will be 1 - 8 p. m. today at Cook-Butler Funeral Home chapel.
Services will be noon Wednesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, the Rev. Lee S. Hall officiating.
Burial will be at Hines Cemetery. Cook-Butler Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-3821.
