Clarence David Alvis, 82, of the Alvis Road passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Princeton community Hospital.

Born November 8, 1927 in Athens, he was the son of the late John Kenna and Cora Martin Alvis.

He was a 1946 graduate of Athens High School and later served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. clarence was a life-long farmer, continuing the family farming tradition where he was born and raised. He was employed for 44 years with Highland Propane, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist church. clarence will be remembered by those who knew him as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was always compassionate and kind to those around him. He enjoyed walking on the farm, looking after his cattle, and relaxing under the shade trees with family. He especially enjoyed family get-togethers with good food and good laughs, surrounded by those he loved. He was always willing to help others in need and he treated everyone with kindness.

In addition to his parents, clarence was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Alvis, and one sister, Helen Hodges.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Remona Frances Alvis; three daughters, Donna Ford Sizemore and husband Kenny, Debra Alvis-Hall, and Sandra Furches and husband Tim; One Son, Russell Alvis and wife Lori, all of Princeton; Two sisters, Gladys Mccomas of Flat Top and Maxine Moye of Spanishburg. clarence leaves behind 6 grandchildren from whom he received great joy: Lisa Ford Blankenship and husband Ryan, Jamie Furches and wife Jennifer, Michael Paul Ford and wife Krystal, Ryan Furches, courtney Hall, and Zachary Alvis, all of Princeton. clarence had 6 great-grandchildren who gave him so much happiness in his later years: Madeline, Nathan, and collin Blankenship, Tara Shae Furches, Brooklyn and Blake Ford.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 4:00 PM from the Burns Wornal chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Scott Mayberry officiating.

Gravesite rites and burial will follow at the family farm.

Friends may call one hour prior to services on Friday. Friends and family may leave online condolences at www.memorialfd.com.

Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
