FRANCIS McDEVITT
Francis E. McDevitt, 80, of 125 Oak St., Rutland, died Sunday in a Rutland nursing home after a long illness. He was born in South Dorset Jan 19, 1891, son of James and Anna (Phalen) McDevitt.
A machinist, he formerly worked at Rutland manufacturing companies and during World War I and World War II he was employed at the government arsenal in Watervliet, N.Y.
Mr. McDevitt was associated with his brother, Matthew McDevitt, in the meat and grocery business before his retirement in 1960.
Mr. McDevitt had resided in Rutland since 1920, the year of his marriage to Teresa T. Connell of Watervliet.
He was a member of St. Peter's Church of Rutland and an usher there for many years, and also belonged to Rutland Council, Knights of Columbus, and Rutland Lodge of Elks.
Survivors are his wife, Teresa (Connell) McDevitt of Rutland; three sisters, Sister Mary Matthew of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Rutland, Miss Anna McDevitt and Miss Mary H. McDevitt, both of Rutland, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday in St. Peter's Church at 11 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rutland.
