Amelia Gonzales, 74, a loving sister and aunt, a native of Springer, passed away with her family at her side, Friday, March 17, 2006. She was born in Albert, N.M., the daughter of Desiderio and Vicentita Gonzales.

Amelia retired after working in the Springer Banks for several years; she also worked at the Gambles store for many years. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Benny; one sister, Priscilla; and special nephew Jerry Dean.

Amelia is survived by her sisters, Marie Blea and husband Steve of Mosquero, Marie Carmen of Michigan, Alice Tafoya and husband Steve of Albuquerque, Adelina Lopez and husband Jerry of Albuquerque, Cecilia Trujillo and husband Abel of Springer; and special nephew Chris Gonzales and wife Janice of California; also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing was March 20 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springer. A Rosary Devotional Service followed recited by Sister Carmen. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's with Father Michael DePalma as the celebrant. Rite of committal and interment will follow at the Springer Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are her nieces and nephews Jose Trujillo Jr., Chris Gonzales, Elmer Medina, Donald Blea, David Gonzales and Annette Archuleta. Honorary pallbearers include other nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements for Amelia Gonzales are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
