Howard LeGrand Chatfield was the son of the Rev. Drury L. and Nellie Ruggles Chatfield. His siblings were, Paul Chatfield, Mary Chatfield Morris, and Flora Ruth Chatfield Harper (see father's obituary).

Howard L. Chatfield, 79, died at 7:02 AM Thursday, Sept. 21, 1995, in Lafayette Home Hospital, following a five-week illness. Born June 24, 1916, at Omar, WV, he was raised at Frankfort, was a 1935 graduate of Frankfort High School, and a longtime resident of Lafayette. His marriage was to Donna L. Wickham on Oct. 1, 1939, at Elkhart, and she survives.

Mr. Chatfield had worked in the plant protection department of the Aluminum Company of America for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and antiquing. He and his wife wintered in Tucson, AZ.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Ronald H. Chatfield of Delphi; two daughters, Judith Ann (Mrs. Richard) Benedict of Lafayette and Marilyn Sue (Mrs. Thomas H.) Barefoot of West Lafayette; two sisters, Mary Katherine (Mrs. Arthur P.) Morris and Ruth (Mrs. Donald) Harper, both of Lafayette; a brother, Paul F. Chatfield of Venice, FL; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
