DIES AT 100F HOME
Mrs. Hazel Gillis, 80, a native of Danville, Illinois, died at 3 a.m. Friday at the Indiana Odd Fellows Home here where she had been a guest since June 20, 1966.
The daughter of John W. and Christine "Emma" Skelton Gillis, she was born April 21, 1889. She came to the state I.O.O.F. Home here from the Indianapolis Progress Rebekah Lodge No. 195.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Helen L. Head of Indianapolis.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Konkle Funeral Home, Indianapolis.
Burial will be In Lincoln Memorial Garden Cemetery, Indianapolis.
Hazel married Claude Bailey, son of Edward J Bailey and Mary Jane Shores or Sheer. Claude is the father of Helen Bailey Head. It is not known what became of Claude. He was apparently a very bad boy and was in the prison system at Joliet, Illinois. Hazel changed her last name back to Gillis.
Interesting fact, John William Gillis had only two daughters and both married very shady characters. I came up with two different birth years for Claude Bailey. Hazel's sister's husband, led two separate lives and cannot find out who his parents were or his actual birth year or place.
