Lea Rothenberger, 97, of Pierre, died on Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Maryhouse Nursing Center, Pierre.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home, Pierre.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, at Faith Lutheran Church, Pierre.

Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Pierre.

Lea Mehrer was born on Sept. 25, 1908, in Yankton County to Emanuel and Lydia (Gall) Mehrer. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. In 1927, Lea moved with her family to Hughes County.

On Sept. 20, 1931, she married John Rothenberger at the Lutheran Church in Harrold. They farmed northeast of Harrold until 1941, when they bought a farm south of Harrold, which was where they made their home and raised their family. In 1967, they retired, sold the farm and moved to Pierre.

Lea was active member in her churches, Immanuel Lutheran in Harrold and Faith Lutheran in Pierre. She was also a member of Senior Citizens and County Extension Club. Lea enjoyed crocheting, reading her Bible, and playing games.

Lea is survived by her five children, Doris Fuchs and her husband Conrad of Grove City, Ohio, Dale Rothenberger and his wife Marjorie of Watertown, Joan Cash and her huband Kenneth of Pierre, Donna Stulken and her husband Douglas of Spearfish, and Donald Rothenberger and his wife Lee of Garretson, N.D.; three sisters, Laura Gramm of LaMesa, Calif., Alma Buechler of Pierre, and Adeline Rothenberger of Sioux Falls; three brothers, Oscar Mehrer, Leon Mehrer and his wife Bertie, and Elmer Mehrer and his wife Delores, all of Pierre; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Martha Vance of Pierre and Alvina Bauer of Highmore.

Lea was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and two sisters, Tillie Rowton and Dorline Furgeson.
