MINONK – Allen W. “Al” Otto, 88, of Minonk, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Thursday (April 6, 2017) at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Union Church, 2101 E. Washington St., Bloomington. The Rev. Dr. Andrew Gifford will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Private burial will be at Salem Lutheran Cemetery No. 2, Varna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Luke Union Church, Bloomington. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Al was born April 26, 1928, in Port Edwards, Wis., the son of William F. and Clara Zieher Otto. He married Shirley Holshue on Sept. 13, 1952, in Akron, Ohio. She passed away Sept. 25, 2011.

Surviving are two children, John R. (Annie) Otto, Minonk, and Sherie (Dave) Hagar, Rociada, N.M.; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Vi King.

Al graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he received a degree in chemical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Al worked at BF Goodrich, Henry, for many years until his retirement. He was an avid football fan. Al was a member of St. Luke Union Church, Bloomington. He had multiple hobbies and enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
