Alice May DeVall, daughter of Henry Clay and Laura Emmaline DeVall, was born in Topeka, Kansas, September 6, 1881 and passed away August 17, 1963 in the Mooreland Hospital after a lengthy illness. She grew to womanhood in Taney County, Missouri. There she met and married Charles Denean Maddux on November 7, 1900 at Forsythe, Missouri. To this union were born eleven children, six sons and five daughters. She is survived by seven children; Oren E., Fay A. and Harold E. of Mooreland, Oklahoma; Edna Devous, Hardtner, Kansas; Iva Berry, Harrah, Washington; Eva Phillips, Mooreland; and Ada Cole, Hayward, California. Also 31 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and one brother Ernest DeVall, Inglewood California.
In the early 1900's they moved to the Haskew Community, Woodward County, Oklahoma where they reared their family. In December, 1942, they moved to Mooreland, Oklahoma where Mr. Maddux preceded her in death on July 3, 1949. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Raymond, Roy Lee and Floyd and one daughter, Alta Taylor, also three grandchildren, her mother and father, five sisters and three brothers.
She and her husband were charter members of the Haskew Baptist Church. On moving to Mooreland she transferred her membership to the Baptist Church there, where she was a faithful member as long as her health permitted. She was a loving and faithful mother and will be greatly missed by her family and a host of relatives and friends.
