James M. "Jim" Hawley, of Roanoke, peacefully departed this life Tuesday, October 7, 2014.

Mr. Hawley was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Hawley; brothers, Albert, Warren, and Bill Hawley, and a sister, Louise Hawley Miles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Hawley; devoted daughter, Teresa Kelly and husband, Paul of Roanoke, Va.; son, Steve Hawley and his wife, Angela of Jacksonville, Fla.; beloved grandchildren, Shannon Hawley Turner, Cameron Kelly, Kendal Kelly; great grandchildren, Kayla Turner, Kobe Turner, Alex Hawley, and Ethan Deskins; sister, Ruth Thomas.

Jim enjoyed his garden and loved to harvest and give fruits and vegetables to all. He was a true "People Person" and never met a stranger. Jim will be missed by his remaining family, but his final days will be cherished with the abundance of love that encompassed his life.

The family wishes to thank the special care given at Lewis Gale CCU, Raleigh Court Skilled Nursing, Salem Fresenius Dialysis Center and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday October 9, 2014 at Oakey's North Chapel, 6732 Peters Creek Road. Funeral Services will be at noon on Friday October 10, 2014, with Elder Larry Hollandsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
