An interesting side note - David Bloom's father was born in Hesse- Hanau Germany and was one of the Hessians sent to America to fight with the British against the Colonists.

Maj. D. Bloom died at the residence of C. P. Grimes, of inflammation of the lungs, on Jan. 26th. Mr. Bloom was nearly 76 years of age, being one of the oldest settlers in the town. He came from Pennsylvania in an early day, and settled near Hickory Grove, in Will county, but remained there only a short time, when he came to this place, (Rockville) where he has resided nearly all the time for about forty years. He leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his departure.
