John ROSS states in various census, that he was born in Vermont. He did migrate from Bennington County, but it is not known if he was actually born in the county of Bennington. To date (Aug 2023) no record has been found yet stating what country he was actually born in.. though his parents marriage in 1795, was recorded in Bennington County, Vermont. So, it's very possible John could have also been born in Bennington County, Vermont.
There is a probate record in Bennington County that says he was orphaned in 1786 (about age 14). Unfortunately, the record does not give the names of his parents.

John married.. Lucy MANNING (d/o William Manning & Martha) on, 1 Nov 1795 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont. They had at least 9 to10 children.. but so far, only 6 have been confirmed. Lyman, Truman, Jesse, James, Jane & Lucy. Between 1810 - 1820 they migrated from Bennington County, VT. into Chautauqua County, New York. Then between 1840 - 1850, John & Lucy moved to Erie County, PA. and are listed in the Aug 1850 census, living with their daughter, Jane (Ross) TAFT.
