Margaretha Heink was born on April 26, 1851 in the Marcolini Palais in Dresden-Friedrichstadt, Saxony, Germany. Her parents were Felix August Heink and Auguste Dursthoff. She was a tutor for Douw Ditmars Williamson Jr's family who were living in Dresden for a year in 1873. Margaretha married Douw's nephew, George Norman Williamson Sr. (son of Nicholas Williamson and Mary Rebecca Burlock). They were married on October 10, 1876 in Dresden. George was a New York City lawyer and later worked for his uncle's chemical business, D.D. Williamson and Company, that was located in Long Island City. The Williamsons had five children named Elsa Rebecca (Mrs. Robert Emery Anderson, Sr.), Hildegard, Margaretha Fanny, George Norman, and Katrina. The Williamsons lived in New York City and later in Englewood, New Jersey. Starting around 1912, Margaretha built a chalet (said to be the first one built in the United States) in Wonalancet, New Hampshire.
