Professional Hockey Player. A native of Windsor, Ontario, the 5'10, and 182lbs, Turner played the position of goalie for the Detroit Red Wings from 1941 to 1942. A veteran of World War II, Turner entered the United States Marine Corps, and served with them from 1942 to 1945. On January 12, 1945, he was killed in action in Holland, at the age of 25. The Joe Turner Trophy used by the IHL, was established in his honor, and used in the league's championship games, until the league's demise in 2001. He was brought home and is buried in his hometown of Windsor, Ontario.
