George was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Cedar Valley, Iowa, to Earl and Meta Theilen Harris. He married Maxine Rich on Sept. 1, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. George worked at Penick and Ford for 22 years and for Bowman Wood Schools for six years. He was a member of Hanford American Legion Post 5 and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
