Obituary in the "Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record" of Sep. 30, 1892: Another of our ancient landmarks has passed away-Mrs. Ann Cashin died on Sunday, 18th September, at the ripe old age of 72, from apoplexy. She was a very old resident of Lily- dale and settled down here some eighteen years ago with her large family, of whom mention will here after be made. She formerly occupied the " Old Mill" at Lilydale, where she and her husband resided for many years, and are supposed to have done well. At the death of her husband she became possessed of considerable landed and house property in Melbourne and suburbs, which she retained until her death; she also possessed a valuable property in Lilydale. Since she has resided here she has by her hard-working and industrious habits and perseverance also attained considerable property, and until a year or two of her death she worked hard, was in the milking yard in all weathers, afterwards attending to her dairy farm, making, butter, rearing calves by hand, working hard in her garden, and even assisting in the field to get in crops. In every sense of the word she was a most extraordinary, hard-working, industrious woman. She was kind to all around, and in sickness she was ever ready to lend a helping hand in the hour of need. She kept a good home and every comfort attached to the same that every one could wish for. She was firm and resolute in her manner and would not allow herself to be taken advantage of by no one. She brought up a very large family with praiseworthy assiduity, and being of the good old school the rudiments of good discipline were firmly implanted by her for their especial benefit, and had the desired effect, for her family, as they now reside here, are a credit to a mother's care and all the circumstances attendant on the same. The family constitute Mr. James T. Cashin, Mr. William Cashin (President of the Woorayl Shire Council), Mr. Robert Cashin, and Mr. John Cashin, all of whom have splendid dairying properties and are doing exceedingly well. Mr. James T. Cashin and Mr. John Cashin are single; Mr. Robert Cashin and Mr. William Cashin have large families; the latter married a daughter of Mr. Thomas Lees, senior, formerly of Lilydale, who with his son, Thomas Lees, junior, own two very valuable estates on the Tarwin River.
