"Brother George was invested as a Capuchin lay brother novice at Holy Cross Monastery, Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin, on 18 October 1872; the next year on 24 October 1873, he made his profession of religious vows in the Order, and on 24 October 1876, he took solemn vows in the Order. He died suddenly at 5:15 p.m., on 27 December 1915, at Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin, while walking down the road to the village on the way to visit his aged cousin, Mrs. Weber; and is buried in the monastery cemetery at Mt. Calvary. We have very little information on his activity, but around 1879 and the few following years he was "porter" (that is, receptionist at the front office) at St. Francis Monastery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; then he was the cook in the East (at Fort Lee, New Jersey, in New York City, and at Yonkers, New York); then he was stationed at our monastery of St. Elizabeth's in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, first as "porter", then as gardener, and finally at Holy Cross, Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin."

This information was sent to me 28 November 1978, by Fr. Donald Wiest, O.F.M.Cap. Provincial Archivist. St. Bonaventure Monastery 1740 Mt. Elliott Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48207
