Bessie (Hullis) Benedict, 92, formerly of Aliquippa, PA, died peacefully Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Arden Courts, Yardley, PA.

Born April 29, 1922 in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late George and Ella (George) Hullis. Bessie graduated third in her class from Aliquippa High School in 1940; Kent State University in 1944, where she received her Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) Business Education, and the University of Pittsburgh receiving her Master's Degree in Education in 1962.

She began teaching at Aliquippa High School in 1944, and became Business Department Chairman in 1964 until she retired in 1983. In addition, she taught and coordinated vocational training courses at the Community College of Beaver County and Penn State Beaver Campus under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) and Vocational Act of 1973. She inspired and taught, and will be fondly remembered by thousands of business and secretarial students throughout Beaver County.

Bessie's greatest passion was travel, and she did so extensively, usually with friends and relatives. With the exception of Antarctica, she visited all of the continents: Hong Kong and China in Asia; Australia and New Zealand; on Safari and the Nile Valley in Africa; Rio de Janeiro and the Tijuca rain forest in South America; and many, many visits to Europe, mostly to her beloved Greece and family home island of Limnos.

She was a member of Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Aliquippa and the American Association of University Women.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Hullis, and sister, Molly Xillas.

Surviving are her only son, Andrew Benedict and daughter-in-law Karen Benedict and Andrew's stepdaughters: Lauren Hohmann and Adriane Hohmann; her sister-in-law, Athena Hullis, and her nieces and nephews: Elaine Hullis Himmelman and her husband Keith Himmelman, George Hullis, Michael Xillas and his wife Jan Xillas, George Xillas and Tom Hall.

Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, www.tatalovichfuneral home.com. Bessie will lie in state Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. in Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 2110 Davidson St., Aliquippa, with Father Dr. Stelyios Muskuris officiating.

Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa.

Trisagion (blessing service) will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
