Mrs. Mary L. Gibson of 2018 Thirtieth street, Rock Island, died at 6:05 o'clock this morning at St. Anthony's hospital after an illness of three years.
Mrs. Gibson was the widow of Captain Fred B. Gibson of the Rock Island fire department. He died in September, 1949. Mrs. Gibson had been engaged in millinery work in various stores for many years. Her last place of employment was at the Block & Kuhl store in Rock Island.
Mrs. Gibson, the former Mary L. Lorentzen, was born Sept. 5, 1888, in Cheyenne, Wyo., and came to Rock Island with her parents when 2 years old. She had resided here since.
She was married to Mr. Gibson in Rock Island Feb. 3, 1909. She was a member of the First Methodist church and of the Rock Island chapters of the Eastern Star and White Shrine.
Survivors are her mother, Mrs. Sophia Lorentzen, and a sister, Mrs. Fred Hansen, both of Rock Island, and a nephew, Howard Van Hoek, Port Byron. In addition to her husband, her father, Peter Lorentzen, and a son, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Hodgson funeral home. The Rev. Donald H. Gibbs, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
