Myrtle Gray Spence Andrews, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 5, 2014 after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Spence, Sr. and Bessie Hoover Spence, her husband Albert Lee Andrews, grandson, John Franklin Jones, Jr., and brothers, Dixon Spence and Milton “Jr.” Spence.

She was born in Kinston on February 25, 1940 and was raised there. She married the love of her life, Albert, at the age of fifteen and together they loved and raised five children.

She worked at Glen Raven Mills for twenty years, after which she quit to devote her time to “being a grandma”. She devoted most of her life to raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren. She made a point to tell people how proud she was of her family and how much she loved them all. Ms. Myrtle was a down to earth giving person who enjoyed “the simple things” in life. She enjoyed dining out with her friends and family, fishing, and the highlight of her day, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on television. She was a long time member of Rivermont Baptist Church and enjoyed praising and worshiping her Lord.

Survivors include her children, Patricia Jones and husband John, Betty Howard and husband Edward, Barbara Byrd and husband Eddie, Terry Andrews and wife Debbie and Tony Andrews; grandchildren, Kristy Bradshaw and husband Josh, Stephanie Davis, Adriane Andrews, Josh Andrews, Tyler Andrews, Alex Andrews, Wesley Andrews, and Sydney Williams; the “apples of her eye”, her great-grandchildren, Gracie and Jacob Bradshaw and DeAndre and Jacob George; a special sister-in-law and best friend, Hilda Spence, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Misbah Qadir, Sherry Smith, the staff of Magnolia Cottage, 3HC Home Health and Hospice, and Faye Simmons and staff for the loving and compassionate care given to Ms. Myrtle during her final days.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 pm Friday, November 7, 2014 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Patricia Jones. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Funeral Home with Reverend Ronnie Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Howard-Carter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
