John Pratt was born in 1770 (or 1773) in Connecticut. His parents are currently unknown (LDS has one possible match; Isaac Pratt and Mary Beckley). He married Mary March (daughter of John March and Sarah Brocklebank) on June 21, 1798 in Walpole, Cheshire County, New Hampshire (their marriage record says they both came from Hartford). John was a blacksmith on Prospect Hill in Walople. He and Mary had at least five children named John, Daniel Emery, Hannah M., Oliver, and Millicent (Mrs. Jesseniah K. Kidder). John died on February 16, 1844 in Walpole.

Notes:

1) The only known source for John's birth date is from his gravestone. The inscription has either "74" or "71" for his age. It's probably "74". There is a very faint horizontal line giving the appearance of a "4".

2) The sources for John's birth place came from his marriage record and a 1880 Walpole, New Hampshire census for his oldest son, John Jr.. The records say John Sr. was born in Connecticut.
