Betty Jean Carter Hackworth, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 8, 2014, due to age. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was under the care of Avalon Home Health and Hospice.

Betty was born May 26, 1924, in Boise, Idaho, to Edith L. Carter. She was raised in Castleford, Idaho, and attended school there, and graduated in 1943.

She moved to Idaho Falls in 1967 where she lived until her death. In 1978 she started working at the INEL in the Argonne cafeteria until her retirement in 1990. Retirement allowed her to spend her days doing her favorite things: gardening, camping, fishing, traveling, and spending time with her young grandkids and children. She was an excellent cook. Betty was an avid sports fan, and especially loved watching the Denver Broncos, NHRA drag racing, and watching golf.

Betty is survived by her children:
son, Clint (Kay) Parks of Twin Falls, ID;
son, Bob (Rose Anna) Miller of Stratford, CT;
daughter, Lisa (Terry) Morton of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Valerie (Ryan) Packer of Ammon, ID
10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edith L. Carter; sister, LaVonn Inchausti; brother, Junior Carter; son, Gary Hackworth; her faithful four-legged companion, Bud; and companion, Dale Leonard.

At Betty’s request, there will be no services. Cremation will be under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue.

A very special thanks to Rhea for your friendship. Also, thank you to Laura and Joe from Avalon Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they gave to Betty in her final months. Your caring and compassion will not be forgotten.
