GRASSROOTS DOWN UNDER A History of Lynn Co., Tx.
"G. W. :The son of a Texas Ranger and Indian fighter, moved to Lynn Co. after buying land in the Three Lakes area. Born George Washington "Wash" Hickerson August 10, 1871, at Crawford, Texas. He attended business college in Waco, then married Laura Edwards July 19, 1896, at Crawford. He was elected county commissioner, as well as Three Lakes School Trustee, and served for 35 years. Upon retirement, the Hickersons moved to Tahoka where they were members of the Baptist Church, WOW, and Knights of Pythias. Their sons were Arthur William, J. W. (a WWII pilot of B-24 Bombers), Joe Gus, Glen Lee (served in Air Corps in India during WWII), Arlice Thad (WWII paratrooper in Europe), Oscar Dean, G.W. Jr., Cecil Couch, Oran, and Ray Alden. Two daughters were Mrs. Jake (Thelma Lee) Ellis, and Mrs. Herman (Florene) Ellis." P. 331

A brother of "Wash", Robert Lee Hickerson, married Minnie Victoria Edwards, sister of Laura Belle Edwards, the wife of "Wash".

On February 17, 2013, I received this note from Carol Hickerson Barham, granddaughter, saying, " His "real" name was G. Wash Hickerson. She said that neither her dad, G.W. or her granddad were named George Washington. Her great granddad named his son G. Wash Hickerson. Her granddad (Wash) named her dad G.W.; only initials. She said the Army gave him fits with it saying he "had" to have a real name and he kept saying that "G. W." WAS his real name. (S. McDonald)
