Obituaries: Sister Berchmans Hogan
Funeral mass for Sister Berchmans Hogan,who died Thursday,was celebrated in the chapel of Mount St. Joseph by the Rev. F.M. Grant. Born in Douro,she was the daughter of Thomas Hogan and the former Mary Brick. After joining the Order in 1900 at the age of 22 she spent many years in serving orphan children at St. Vincent’s Orphanage and also elderly citizens in the former House of Providence. For the last ten years of active service she was in Hastings to discharge the duties of sacristan at Mount Carmel Church. Sister was the oldest member of the congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph wherefrom she retired 11 years ago. Of a family of nine,the only survivor is a brother Albert of Orillia. Bishop Marrocco assisted by the Very Rev. T. B. Coughlan and G.J. Weis gave the last absolution. Burial was in St. Peter’s cemetery.
