George Lewis Cabral 88, passed away on November 11, 2014. He was born on January 18, 1926, the sixth child of Fernando and Flora (Lima) Cabral of Ceres, California.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Leonardo) Cabral, his parents, brothers Manuel, John, Carl and Andrew, and sister Marie Vieira.

George is survived by one brother Joe of Wellington, three sisters: Dorothy, Elaine and Betty Vieira. Three children, Flora Reinsch, George Jr., and Alice Brown.  He has nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews.

George was a lifelong rancher with a love of draft horses. He served in the U.S. Navy 1944-1948 and was stationed in Korea.  He was employed at Gallo Winery and became a talented welder, until he took an early retirement in 1978. Besides his family, the other great love in his life were his Percheron horses and mules and all the wonderful friends he made through the horses.  He belonged to the California Draft Horse and Mule Association. He took his horses on trail drives, Christmas Tree Lane, parades, horse pullings, antique work days, and with his covered wagon mules to elementary schools for history education. One highlight was pulling a 27-mule hitch in 2008. He loved using the antique horse drawn equipment to do his own fieldwork whenever possible.

George was a wonderful father and grandfather.  He enjoyed being with his family, whether it was playing games, giving rides with his horse and buggy, or making Portuguese doughboys.
