Frank G. Lenardo went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at the age of 77. Frank died peacefully at his home in Fortuna.
A lifelong resident of Humboldt County, Frank was born in Crannell on Oct. 13, 1920, to John and Georgina Lenardo. At the age of 8, he moved with his parents to Ferndale.
Frank was a self-employed dairyman in Ferndale on the Tappendorf Dairy at the end of Fulmore Road and from 1951 until the 1955 flood disaster, and then was employed at various mills, retiring from Eel River Saw Mills in 1982.
Frank was an avid fisherman and hunter, and his many friends knew him by "Cast-a-head."
A veteran of World War II, Frank was a life member of V.F.W. Post #6353 of Ferndale, and a member of the American Legion Post #559 of Ferndale. He was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Fortuna, I.D.E.S. Lodge and St. Anthony Lodge of Ferndale and Our Lady of Fatima of Thornton.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Martha Lenardo of Fortuna; his daughter, Kathy and her husband, George Hawkins of Fortuna; hi s grandchildren, J.R. and his wife, Tammy Hawkins, Jason and Karrie Ann; great grandchildren, Matthew and Alyssa Hawkins; his brother, Joe Lenardo of Rio Dell ; his sisters, Georgina Silva of Blue Lake and Mary Machado of Rio Dell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline in 1954; his parents, John and Georgina Lenardo; his brother, John Lenardo, all of Ferndale; and his beloved nephew, Johnny Cardoza, and great nephews, Mike Cardoza and Joey Lenardo.
Friends are invited to attend Rosary services Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at 7:30 P.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 14th and N Streets, Fortuna. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father Michael Cloney, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna.
Casketbearers will be Gary Lenardo, Albert Cardoza, Joey Lenardo, Tony Lenardo, Joey Sancho and Robert Sancho. Honorary bearers will be George Silva, Tony Machado Jr., Bill Bartlett, Joe Sancho and Joe Nelson Barcelos.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Chapel, Fortuna, where friends may call Friday from 9 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. and at St. Joseph's Catholic Church from 6:30 P.M. to 8 P.M.
The family has asked that those wishing make memorial contributions to Humboldt Home Health Services, 1151 Main St., Fortuna 95540.
