Marie Martha Lenardo went home to be with the lord on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the age of 80. Martha died peacefully at her home in Fortuna. A lifelong resident of California, Martha was born in French Camp, CA on July 29, 1931, to Evaristo and Marie Vaz. Martha married her lifelong love Frank G. Lenardo on September 26, 1953 in Sebastopol, CA. They lived in Ferndale on the Teppendorf Dairy from 1951 until the 1955 flood disaster. Soon after they settled in Fortuna, CA where they lived and raised their family. Through the years Martha held many jobs from St. Josephs School as a cook, to working at the Humboldt Action Yard. She is best known as Grandma to all the kids at Town School where she worked for more than 20 years before she retired in 1996. Martha was a member of the Catholic Daughters and was actively involved in the Portuguese Celebration.. She is survived by her son-in-law George Hawkins Sr. and his wife Jill Hawkins of Fortuna; grandchildren J.R. and his wife Tammy Hawkins, Jason and his wife Christina Hawkins, and Karrie and her husband Daniel Keagy. Great grandchildren Mathew, Alyssa, Brittany, Laura, Danika, and Trace Hawkins, Lilly and Hannah Keagy. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughters Paulina in 1954 and Katherine in 2004; her husband Frank G. Lenardo and her parents Evaristo and Marie Vaz. Friends and family are invited to attend the viewing from 2-5:00 PM Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Goble's Fortuna Mortuary in Fortuna. The Rosary will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fortuna at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Cloney, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna. Casket Bearers will be J.R. Hawkins, Jason Hawkins, Daniel Keagy, Gary Lenardo, Joey Sancho, Floyd Whitlow, Bill Bartlett, and Tom Cook. A reception will follow immediately at the Parish Activity Center, 2312 Newburg Road Fortuna. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary, Fortuna.
