LT. COL. BILLY LAWRENCE
(February 17, 1917 - October 12, 1993)

Lt. Col. Billy Lawrence, 76, of Del City, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 1993. He was born February 17, 1917 in Valliant, Oklahoma to Miles L. Lawrence and Nettie (Coursey) Lawrence.

He lived around Valliant, OK while going to school, and he grew up there. He attended Mt. Zion Grade School in Mt. Zion Community, at one time. He and his family, later moved to Millerton, Oklahoma, which was also in the Valliant Public Schools District.

He married his Valliant High School Sweetheart, Edna Earle Billingsley, who also was from Valliant, OK.

Lt. Col. Billy Lawrence was a veteran of WW11 in the China, India and Berma Theaters, the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam War. He flew 372 combat missions and was the recipient of three distinguished flying crosses and numerous other honors.

He retired as a Lt. Col. in the U. S. Air Force. He and Edna were beloved by all they met and made lasting friends in all their travels in the U. S. Air Force.

After his retirement, Billy and Edna lived in Del City, OK for many years.

Billy Lawrence was survived by his wife, Edna Earle (Billingsley) of the home in Del City, Oklahoma; a daughter, Vicki Shapiro Bielecki and her husband, Bruce Bielecki of St. Louis, MO; an only grandson, Scott Lawrence Shapiro, who was attending the University of Tulsa; two sisters, Imogene Threadgill of Oklahoma City, OK and Betty Cousins of Broken Arrow, OK; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Leonard Lawrence.

Lt. Col. Billy Lawrence was a member of the Sunnylane Baptist Church in Del City, OK, a 32nd degree Mason of Masonic Lodge 301 in Valliant, OK, a member of VFW Post 7192, and a member of the Tinker AFB Officers Club.

Services were held on Thursday, October 14, 1993, 2:00 p.m. at Sunnylane Southern Baptist Church with burial either in Valliant Cemetery, Valliant, OK or Sunnylane Cemetery, Del City, OK.
