Joseph Donald Bernardi Sr., 83, of Danville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at Gardenview Manor Nursing Home.

Joseph was born Jan. 19, 1931 in Danville to Frank and Stella (Juergens) Bernardi. Joseph married Clara Fortner on May 25, 1963 and she preceded him in death in July of 2013.

Survivors include his children, Elizabeth Leitzen, Frank Bernardi, Joseph (Isabel) Bernardi Jr., Daniel (Cindy) Bernardi and David (Denise) Bernardi; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Daniel (Ruby) Bernardi.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.

He attended Glendmeir, Collett and St. Patrick grade schools, and DHS; he graduated in 1949. Joseph went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He then returned home and worked at Kraft, McLane Midwest and Heatcraft.
