MILFORD CENTER — Bernice Bliss Utter, 83, of Milford Center, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Milford Center, the daughter of Elmer and Maude (Bowler) Bliss.
She married John W. Utter on Dec. 10, 1932. Mr. Utter died Feb. 16, 1989.
Mrs. Utter was employed by Stanley Home Products as a demonstrator and unit manager from 1948 until 1974. She was also employed at Bendix Corp. in Sidney for several years, and was also a foster mother, having cared for 16 children over a period of several years.
She graduated from Milford Central School and was a member of the Portlandville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the senior choir.
Mrs. Utter is survived by one daughter, Shirley E. Banner of Cooperstown; two sons, James W. Utter of Schenevus and Dennis T. Utter of Milford Center; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by an infant son in 1946, and a daughter, Beverly Hoose, in 1970. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Erma Balcom and Hazel Baker, and three brothers, Lynn, Lyle and Glenn Bliss.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 1999, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the Portlandville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Milford Center Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, when the family will be in attendance.
Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.
