Barbara Fried Gordon, of Statesville, passed away, Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Gordon was born in Boston, MA and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Irene Fried. She was an honor graduate of Newton High School in Boston and also attended Mitchell College in Statesville. On July 22, 1951, she was married to Ellis Lippman Gordon, who preceded her in death on August 2, 1993. She was a member of the Congregation Temple Emanuel of Statesville, where she had been a former President of the Ladies Auxiliary and was a teacher in her synagogue's religious school.

She was very active in the community, being a Girl Scout leader, having served on the board of the Statesville Arts & Science Museum and was a founding member of the Statesville Little Theatre. She taught French at Statesville Montessori School, was everyone's favorite substitute teacher in the Statesville/ Iredell County Schools and also served as a Volunteer Teachers Assistant at Avery Sherrill School. She was the Vice President of the PTO and fundraising chairman at N.B. Mills School. She touched many lives and "Love" was her favorite word, both in deed and action. She was a very giving person and equality in all aspects of life was very important to her.

Mrs. Gordon is survived by two sons, Barry S. Gordon and wife, Anna of Statesville, Mark A. Gordon and wife, Terry of Greer, SC, three grandchildren, Kathryn Gordon Evans (Andrew) of Fort Mill, SC, Zachary Gordon of Statesville, Morrow Gordon and fiancé, Caity Sigler of Statesville, one great grandson, Grayson Evans, three step-grandchildren, Megan Kilby (Brent), Erin Cox (Ryan), Samuel Hughes, four step great grandchildren, one sister, Norma F. Lurie of Tampa, FL, special friends, Marlene Morrison, Sallie Vallereux, Hanna Adler and many nieces and nephews.
