George Maurice Berrian aka George M. Berrian was born 7 February 1901 at 1489 Hoe Avenue, Bronx, New York 10460-5905. His mother Marie did not fare very well from the childbirth and passed away 2 weeks later 22 February 1901. George was raised for the rest of his childhood by his grandparents, Rudolph Berrian and Mary Berrian.
At the time of the 1910 Census, George was 9 and living with his grandparents at 704 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx, New York 10462-3621 in Morris Park. His grandfather (1846-1923) and grandmother (1843-?) married in 1872. Both grandparents were born in the US. Rudolph was a watchman for a private police company at that time.
At the time of the 1920 Census, George was almost 19 and was still living with his grandparents. At that time, his grandfather was a librarian with the 3rd Avenue Railroad and George was a switchman with the same railroad. George married Jane Veronica Berrian née Simms 10 July 1924 in Church of St. Aloysius, 219 West 132nd Street, New York, New York 10027-7803 in Harlem.
For 1930 Census (17 April 1930), George (28) and Jane (24) were married for about 6 years and rented a home at 101 Pilot Street, Bronx, New York 10464-1662 on City Island. They had 2 boys - George Rudolph Berrian/George R. Berrian/George Berrian (later Brother George Rudolph Berrian/Brother George Berrian, FSC "The Dome") age 4 years 6 months, born 12 September 1925 and Thomas Patrick age 3 years 1 month, born 27 March 1927. The family had two lodgers who live with them: Robert Burton, 33 - occupation, painter at the shipyard and Henry Jones, 21 - occupation ship builder. At this time George Maurice was a chauffeur of a taxi cab. George and Jane later had a third son named Edwin Joseph Berrian (1931-2016).
