Cartographer, engraver, and lithographer. He worked for the Coast & Geodetic Survey for 59 years: reportedly his output has never been surpassed by any other map-making establishment. During the Civil War, he became well known for the military maps he made for the Union. Henry was a charter member of the National Geographic Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He became a citizen in 1861.
