EDWARD "ED" JAMES

Edward "Ed" James was born on 10 May 1919 in Womack Hill, Choctaw County, Alabama to James Ferrel "Bud" James and Hattie Virginia (Abston) James. He said he wanted to die on Veteran's Day, since that was his day. Ed died on 11 Nov 1996 in Butler, Choctaw County, Alabama at the age of 77, which was Veteran's Day. He married Dorothy "Dot" Sellers on 14 Dec 1941 in the Mosley Bridge community in Gilbertown, Choctaw County, Alabama. They were the parents of four children: two daughters and two sons. Their eldest son, Gerald, was killed in action during the Vietnam War.
Ed served the United States Army during World War II. In 1942, the War Department introduced ranks for soldiers that replaced current specialist ranks. Each rank represented a different level of command. Technician Fifth Grade as Corporal; Technician Fourth Grade as Sergeant; Technician Fifth Grade as Sergeant or Staff Sergeants. Ed was a Technician Fifth Grade rank during his service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald "Shorty"; and brother, Rudell James. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, two daughters, one son, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four sisters, and two brothers.
