Hazleton Plain Speaker; Tuesday, July 19, 1898:
In the death of Benjamin Kimmel, Sr., who passed away at his home, 118 South Laurel street, yesterday afternoon, this city loses one of its oldest and most respected residents. Mr. Kimmel, who had reached the ripe old age of 72 years, was born in Stadt-Hosbach, Kreus Eichenway, Keur Hessen, Germany, and came to this country 41 years ago, settling in Hazleton, where he resided ever since. For eighteen years he was in the employ of A. Pardee & Company and later engaged in the junk business, which he gave up about two years ago when ill health prevented him from devoting his time to the work. He was a property owner of considerable means and was an unassuming, respected citizen whose death will be mourned by a large circle of acquaintances. During the past two years his health was poor and for the last two months he was confined to his house, death being due to old age and general debility.

He is survived by four daughters and three sons, Mrs. Ward N. Wheeler, of Scranton; Mrs. J. A. Wiegand, of Matamoras; Mrs. Henry Fuehrer, Mrs. Henry J. Clay, and Benjamin, Jr., William and George, all of this city.
