Catherine Biddle Abbott

Snow Hill-Born September 7, 1914 in Wilmington, Delaware, Catherine B. Abbott of Snow Hill, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Harrison House at the age of 100.

Catherine and husband Harry moved to Snow Hill in 1935, eventually buying a home on Church Street, where she continued to live after Harry died in 1995. In 2011 she became a resident of the Harrison House of Snow Hill. Catherine is fondly remembered as manager of the school cafeteria for Snow Hill Elementary and High School where she and her staff prepared lunch daily for students and teachers, retiring in 1975. She and her husband were devoted members of Bates Memorial United Methodist Church and were among the founders of Bates' Good Samaritan Shop, which provided clothing and other goods to hundreds of area residents. She was very creative with needle and thread, making everything from clothing to magnificent quilts and afghans, often giving her creations away to family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed by all.

She is survived by daughter, Janice Skeeter and husband, Bob of Snow Hill; sons, Bob Abbott and wife, Jenett of Honesdale, PA and Jim Abbott of Knoxville, TN; 8 grandchildren, Bruce Skeeter, Brent Skeeter, Stephanie Inman, Van Abbott, Jeff Abbott, Michael Abbott, Joni Wendrick and Lynne Morgan; 11 great grandchildren, Jason, Johnathan, Matthew & Morgan Abbott, Marlena Wendrick, Spencer & Jason Inman, Wesley, William, Walker & Catherine Skeeter; and a great-great grandchild, Brett Abbott. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Biddle and Laura Jane Conley Biddle; 3 sisters, Carrie Biddle Case, Pauline Biddle Jensen and Bertha Biddle Jarman; and 2 brothers, LeRoy Biddle and Preston Biddle.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. Interment will follow the services at Bates Cemetery. Following the committal service, family and friends are invited back to the fellowship hall at Bates Church for a time of food and fellowship.
