Miles Thompson, father of Mrs. Kern, was a carpenter and contractor for twenty years, doing business at Oil City, where he died at the age of fifty-two years. His wife, whose maiden name was Jones, was like himself a native of Clarion county, and survived him, reaching the age of sixty-eight years. They are buried in Grove Hill cemetery at Oil City. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Baptist Church and a Republican in his political convictions. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson had a family of six children. Mrs. Kern's brothers and sisters being: Jud, formerly prothonotary of Venango county, now a resident of San Diego, Cal.; Bruce, a traveling salesman, who makes his home in Oil City; Grace, wife of D.L. Thomas, of Oil City; Pearl, wife of Grant Nolph, of Punxsutawney, Pa.; and Anna, wife of C.D. Hughes, of San Diego, California.
