TAYLORSVILLE -- Dwight Lyman Isenhour, 80, of 107 Northwood Circle in Taylorsville died unexpectedly Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.

He was born January 9, 1923 in Union Grove in Iredell County to the late Walter E. and Lelia Casey Isenhour.

He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was graduated from Duke University and later earned a master's degree from Appalachian State University. A lengthy career in education included positions as teacher, principal and was concluded as superintendent of the Alexander County Schools. He retired in 1979.

He was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Fraley and brothers, Walter and Fred Isenhour and Buck Fraley.

Survivors include wife, Rebecca Watts Isenhour, whom he married July 5, 1945; two daughters, Edith Rebecca Powell and husband, J.R., of Taylorsville and Laura Ruth Leverone and husband, Donnie, of Suffolk, VA; three sons, Dwight Lyman Isenhour, Jr. and wife, Janie, of Newport News, VA; R. Ed Isenhour and wife, Carol, of Williamsburg, VA; and Bobby Isenhour and wife, Becky, of Taylorsville; five sisters, Lillian Long of Clinton; Becky Church of High Point; Martha Walker of Greensboro; Lois Fincher of Galax, VA; and Edith Dickerson of Winston-Salem; one brother, Harry Fraley of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren, B.J. Isenhour, Mason Earp, Heath Pennell, Nicholas Leverone, Skipper Isenhour, Emily Leverone and Tucker Leverone.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Tuesday at First Baptist Church by Rev. Roger Underwood, Sean Roberds and Rev. Bob Boggs. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Taylorsville Cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at Adams Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.
