Martha Mae Isenhour Walker, of Greensboro, North Carolina, died on the 10th day of May, 2019.

Martha Mae Isenhour Walker was born at home on May 5, 1932, in Cherryville, North Carolina, the tenth of eleven children of Rev. Walter Edison Isenhour and Willie Rhyne Fraley Isenhour. When Walter "Dadoo" Isenhour and Willie "Mom" Isenhour married, both of their first spouses had died, leaving them with four children each. From their marriage, they had three girls, and Martha was the middle child.

Early in her childhood, the family moved to Hiddenite, North Carolina, and as a teenager they moved to High Point, North Carolina. Growing up in the Great Depression as the children of a Wesleyan Methodist minister, Martha and her brothers and sisters told many stories of sleeping multiple kids to a bed, attending camp meetings, living without electricity or indoor plumbing. They talked often of their family friends, the Martins and the Paynes. They picked and canned blackberries and her sister, Dee Dee, was fond of saying, "I was 16 years old before I knew teeth weren't blue and didn't have seeds in them."
At Jamestown High School, Martha played basketball and a newspaper article said she "always proved to be a thorn in the sides of the opposing team." She graduated from high school in 1950, and moved to Charlotte, where she lived with her sister, Dee Dee, and beloved nephew, Chuck.
Martha met Perry Napoleon Walker while he was on leave from the Korean War. They married June 5, 1954, and were married for 55 years until his death in 2009.
They had four children--James Mark, Monty, Mary, and Kathryn. Everyone who knew Martha knew of her deep and profound faith, and her kids remember her doing daily devotions every morning. Her church, First Lutheran, was central to her life where she was involved with the Mary Martha Circle. In addition, she was committed to Al-Anon and started the Campus Al-Anon group at UNC-Greensboro in the early 80s. She attended her home group at First Lutheran for many years. She cherished and adored her seven grandchildren-- Logan, Sali Rae, Jeremy, Liam, Elijah, Edie, and Frances--and was looking forward to meeting her great-granddaughter, Niko. For twelve years, Martha lived with her daughter, Mary, son-in-law, Philip, and grandchildren, Sali and Elijah. In the last two months of her life, she moved to Kerner Ridge in Kernersville, NC where she got to room with her older sister, Rebecca Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Edison Isenhour and Willie Rhyne Fraley Isenhour; her husband, Perry Napoleon Walker; her brothers, Harry Fraley, John "Buck" Fraley, Dwight Isenhour, Walter "Tookey" Isenhour, and Fred Isenhour; her sisters, Lillian "Dee Dee" Long and Carolyn Hogan; and her nieces, Carolyn "Sam" Hogan and Pat Hogan who were like daughters to her.

She is survived by her sisters, Edith Dickerson, of Winston-Salem, NC; Rebecca Church, of High Point/Kernersville, NC; Lois Fincher, of Galax, VA; her son, James Mark Walker, of Stokesdale; her son, Perry Montgomery "Monty" Walker and wife, Sarah, of Whitefish, MT; her daughter, Mary Martha Walker and husband, Philip Haigh, of Greensboro; and her daughter, Kathryn Frances Walker and husband, J. B. Weir, of Roswell, GA. She is also survived by four grandsons, Logan Walker of Selma, OR, Jeremy Walker of Bozeman, MT, Liam Walker of Whitefish, MT, and Elijah Walker-Haigh of Greensboro; three granddaughters, Sali Rae Weigelt of Greensboro; and Edie and Frances Weir of Roswell, GA, as well as many beloved and cherished nieces and nephews. We are grateful to the many relatives and friends who have shown us love and support, including the entire Isenhour, Fraley, and Walker clans, the many dear friends--particularly Carol Campbell, Margie Haines, Ed and Barbara Travis, Robin Mykytyn, Cindy Boehling, and Robin May--and the many friends from both First Lutheran Church and Al-Anon.
