Carrie Rocha Andrews, 94, passed away October 6, 2004 in Woodland, Calif. Born April 16, 1910 in Terceira, Azores, she is the daughter of Joseph and Mariana Rocha. Her family came to the United States in 1921 when she was 11 years old and settled in Ferndale, Humboldt County. She had two brothers and five sisters, all preceded her in death, including Tony Rocha, Mary Brazil and Josephine Correia, all of whom lived in Orland.
She married Daniel Andrews in 1930 and continued to live in Humboldt County until 1943. They moved to Orland and lived in the Lake District until 1961. She was a member of St. Dominic's Church, a charter member of St. Dominic's Altar Society and member of S.P.R.S.I., a Portuguese society. She also worked at the Duche Nut plant for 13 years, from 1962 to 1975. She has lived in Woodland since 2003 at St. John's Retirement Village Manor East.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel in 1961, 18 month old son Richard in 1936, granddaughter Carol Freitas in 1975 and grandson Michael Freitas in 1991.
She is survived by daughters, Lucille Freitas and son-in-law, Vic of Orland and Bertha Taresh and son-in-law Gene of Woodland; grandsons Dan and wife Debbie Freitas of San Francisco and David Taresh of Woodland.
Rosary and Mass will be said Monday, October 11, 2004 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 822 A Street, Orland at 11 A.M. Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Orland. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary, Orland.
