Robert Gray was born Jan 19, 1857 in Glasgow, Scotland to Robert Gray Sr. and Elizabeth Wotherspoon Rae. His parents immigrated to Canada in 1860 when he was three years old where he was raised in Hamilton, Ontario. About age 23 he immigrated to the United States and found his way to Waterville, Washington where he worked as a railroad agent and obtained a land grant of 160 acres to begin a fruit orchard farm. He married Mary Louise Rounds, daughter of Rodney and Rebecca Rounds, neighbors in Waterville, in 1886. They sold their farm and moved into Spokane with their two children in 1909 where Robert continued to work for the railroad. He was staying at his daughter's home in Valley, Stevens County, Washington when he died in 1927.
