Blanche Harrison McGuire, 87, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 27, 2014. There is a poem called "The Dash". November 22, 1927 – December 27, 2014 were her dates of birth and death. The life in between is her dash. What did she do with her dash? In her younger years, she was a daughter and a sister. She was a hairdresser. She was a wife for 63 years. She was a devoted and caring mother. She was an adoring Nana to her granddaughter. She loved to go antique shopping with her two best friends. She was a painter. She was a connoisseur of the art of drinking tea. She loved decorating her home especially during Christmas. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. Many people spend their dash focusing on careers. Blanche spent "her dash" loving her family and friends. She was a gentle and loving soul with a giving heart. She is preceded in death by her father, James Harrison; mother, Irene Foster Harrison; sister, Margaret O'Keefe; and sister, Betsy Copeland. She is survived by her husband, Garrett (Blackie); her daughter, Debbie and her granddaughter, Meghan. She is also survived by her caregiver/adopted daughter, Carol Hagerman and her beloved cat, Buddy; nephews, Jim McGuire, Jeff McGuire, John O'Keefe and Jim O'Keefe. We will miss her greatly and thank her for the great love that she poured out.Services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10 a.m,. with the Rev. Quigg Lawrence officiating. Interment to follow in Fair View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.
