Death of Daniel McCoy.

Daniel McCoy died at his residence on North High Street, on the morning of the 10th of May, at the advanced age of 73 years, 10 months and 6 days. Mr. McCoy came to Newburg about fifty-five years ago, and was at the time of his death, the oldest resident of the town. He was a member of the Church of God, and was one among twelve of the original founders and organizers of the church at this place about fifty years ago. He always took a deep interest in all the affairs of the Church, and was during all these years, one of its most active and earnest supporters. He was an especially gifted man in prayer. His prayers were the spontaneous outpourings of his soul before his God. Upright and honest, he as, at all times, commanded the respect and confidence of his fellow citizens. Surely a good man has passed away from among us. For the last twenty-five years he has been a member of the School Board. His motto was, when you have a good teacher try and keep him; when you have a poor one try to get rid of him. He has also been an active worker in the Sunday School. He was an old time Democrat, and often expressed himself as opposed to the dishonesty that has crept into the politics of these latter days. As a manufacturer of shoes he was always the leading one in the town. He had been complaining for some time, and died suddenly but not unexpectedly, and told us that he was prepared to pass over on the other side, and it is with sorrow that we chronicle his death. His remains were interred at the Bethel Cemetery on the 12th inst, and the funeral rites performed by his pastor, Rev. J. H. Esterline.
