Servcies for A.D. Jones, 81, of Thackerville, were held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 9, at First Baptist Church, Thackerville, with the Rev. Danny Darter delivering the message, assisted by the Rev. Cary L. Jones and the Rev. Harold D. Morton.

Mr. Jones was born April 6, 1922, at Thackerville, the son of Zadie Daniel and Martha Pauline Chaney Jones. He died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, in the River Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center, Gainesville, Texas.

A resident of Love County most of his life, he and Ealeen Powell were married on January 18, 1943, in Marietta. Mr. Jones worked in the C.C. Camp in the Moss Lake area and also in Colorado. While living in California, he was employed by M.I.D., an electric coop in Modesto. After returning to Thackerville to make his home, Mr. Jones served as Mayor for the Town of Thackerville and was also in charge of the garbage collection. For a time he was custodian and bus driver for the Thackerville School District. In addition, Mr. Jones was an employee of the Marietta Sportswear Manufacturing Company. He was also employed by Cooke County College, Gainesville, where he served as a dorm parent, custodian and worked as a security guard, the position he held at the time of his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ealeen Jones of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Charlotte Jones of Gainesville; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Harold D. Morton of Conroe, Texas; a brother, Dick Jones of Las Vegas; five sisters, Etheline Craft, Ruth Pinkston, and Patricia Bozeman, all of Thackerville, Emma McGuffey of Dallas, and Zadeilla Darter of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris Jones, Kimberly Watrous, Joseph Morton and Jason Morton; and five great-grandchildren, Kaile Jones, Brittany Jones, Chelsee Jones, Kelsey Jo Morton and Belicia Morton.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Pete Jones; and a sister, Rozella Green.

Pallbearers were Chris Jones, Joseph Morton, Jason Morton, Randy Liddell, Jim Moore and David Morton.

Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
