This unusual burial for a construction worker took place during the building of Lake James in the Bridgewater section of Burke County. Tom Lewis, a black laborer possibly from Georgia, was crushed by the dipper of a steam shovel. According to construction workers and a local undertaker, Lewis was buried in one of the dams being built. His death certificate states that he was buried in "Construction".
