Hildegard B. Pokorski, age 94, a resident of the Villa at Felician Vilage, Manitowoc, was called to eternal life on Tuesday afternoon, April 26, 2011 at the Villa.
She was born into this life on April 19, 1917, to the late George and Anna (Braun) Brandl. Hildgard married Leo Zimmer on May 9, 1939. After Leo passed away on March 17, 1976, she found companionship and happiness again with one of their dearest friends and married Clement Pokorski on Aug. 13, 1982. Together they found joy in traveling to visit their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2006.
Hilde was a member of the former St. Paul's Parish Womens Club, member of St. Francis of Assisi Women’s Club, St. Clare Society; and Catholic Women’s Club. She volunteered many hours at the Manitowoc Senior Center and St. Paul’s Parish. Many other friends and extended family have been closed to Hilde all of her life. She loved and appreciated each and every one of them. “Grandma’s coming” was always an anticipated excitement and pleasure. Aunt Hilde was always on the nieces and nephews guest list. Weekly, with her famous apple pie, she would visit those in the nursing homes. After Clem’s passing, she herself became a resident of Laurel Grove in Nov. 2006, and St. Mary’s Home in Sept. 2009.
Hildegard is survived by a daughter: Carol Wicklander Rogers and her husband, Ken, of Houston, Texas; a son: Jerry Zimmer and his wife, Barbara, of Golden Colo.; five grandchildren: Tori (Blake) Ratcliff of Friendswood, Texas, Kelly Murraco of Houston, Texas, Brian (Amy) Zimmer of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Lisa (David) Carver of The Woodlands, Texas, and Jason (Lisa) Zimmer of Mokena, Ill.; great-grandchildren: Austin Ratcliff and Alissa Ratcliff of Friendswood, Texas, Anya Zimmer of Bainbridge Island, Wash., twins Leah and Liana Zimmer and Jadon Zimmer, all of Mokena, Ill., and Tyce Carver of The Woodlands, Texas; a sister: Liz Willis; a brother: Isadore Brandl; and sisters-in-law: Grace T. Brandl, Lucille Brandl, Grace A. Brandl and Doris Brandl, all of the Manitowoc area. She was preceded in death by three sisters and brother-in-law: Lucille and Art Eisenschink, Regina and Hugh Williams, Eleanor and Tony Mrozinski and five brothers: Harold, Lambert, Arnold, Mark and George Grandl.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2011, at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Felton, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
