Barbara (Hoffert) Piatz was born on October 9, 1922 at home in Pierce County, Selz, ND to Joseph and Katherine (Keller) Hoffert. She married Frank Piatz on November 4, 1941. When Frank was drafted in 1942 in the Army, Barbara worked for family members until Frank was discharged in 1945. They lived on the farm near Fillmore from 1945-1952. They lived in Harlow until they moved to Devils Lake to the Skyview apartments in 1998 and Angel Heights in 2014.

Barbara was a charter member of the auxiliary in Harlow since 1956 and volunteered many hours for RSVP over the years. Barbara made many quilts for her children and grandchildren and she embroidered many sets of dishtowels that she gave away. She loved to spend time in her garden and flowerbeds in Harlow and her wonderful cooking showcased all her fresh produce. She also enjoyed fishing, a good ‘word find’, canning and spending time with her family. Barbara’s home was always open to anyone and it seemed there was always a pot of coffee on and a game of cards being played.

Barbara is survived by 5 of her 7 children, Kathleen Weisbeck of Bismarck, ND, Beatrice Miller of Dazey, ND, Frank (Marlene) Piatz of Clinton, Iowa, Dorothy (James) Buckmeier of Chruchs Ferry, ND, Joel (Sue) Piatz, Portland, ND. She has 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Sister Rose Hager, brother Leo (Lil) Hoffert and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by both parents, husband, daughter Carol (Don) Redinger and son Don Piatz, grandson Robert Buckmeier and great-granddaughter Raven Redinger. Brothers Tony (Ann) Hoffert, Ludwig (Johanna) Hoffert, Pius Hoffert, Pete Hoffert, sisters Margaret (Windelin) Heilman, Mary (Joe) Duchscher and two son-in-laws, Joseph Weisbeck and Kenneth Miller.
