Margaret Clara Heilman, 96, Rugby, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at the Heart of America Medical Center, in Rugby.

She was born in Elverum Township, Pierce County, on Nov. 4, 1914, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Keller) Hoffert. She was raised there and went to school in Silva. As a young woman she moved to Covington, Ky., where she had an aunt and worked in a paper bag factory. She returned to North Dakota and married Wendelin "Wendell" James Heilman in Rugby on Dec. 26, 1942. They farmed in Reno Valley Township until they retired and shortly thereafter moved to Rugby in 1971. She moved to the Haaland Estates in 2006 and in May 2010 to the Long Term Care Unit at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

She had been a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court # 1193, and a local TOPS Group.

She enjoyed cooking, bowling, gardening, fishing, playing cards and farming with her husband. In the past she had volunteered at the Harold S. Haaland Home and the gift shop of the Heart of America Medical Center. On several occasions they enjoyed fishing trips to Clear Lake in Canada. She and her husband wintered in Arizona for several years. She made a pilgrimage to Rome several years ago, enjoyed bus trips around the country and two trips to Disneyland.

She is survived by her children: Ron and his wife, Dianne, Bottineau, Robert Heilman, Surrey, Sharon and her, husband, Wayne Johnson, Minot, Rita Argersinger, Littleton, Colo., Bernadette and her husband, Dave Price, Denver, and Anita Posey and her special friend, Michael, Denver. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Craig (Paula) Johnson, Michelle (Brett) Johnson, Kevin (Brenda) Heilman, Jason (Daunne) Heilman, Charlene (Mike) Dubois, Troy (Valerie) Heilman, and Stefanie Argersinger; and 13 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Rose Hager, Rugby, and Barbara Piatz, Devils Lake; two brothers, Pius Hoffert, Rugby, and Philip "Leo" Hoffert, Gardena, Calif., a daughter-in-law, Marge Heilman, Rugby; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on Aug. 24, 1984; her parents; her son Richard, on Oct. 26, 2010; a son-in-law, Mike Argersinger; three brothers, Tony, Ludwig and Pete Hoffert; a sister, Mary Duchscherer; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m., in Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. Rev. John Ejike will officiate. Glenda Mack, organist, and Kathy Voeller, soloist.

Casketbearers will be Mike Dubois, Jason, Kevin, and Troy Heilman, Brett and Craig Johnson. Members of the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters will serve as an Honor Guard.

Burial will be in the spring at Little Flower Cemetery in Rugby.
