GARFIELD G. ROSS
Garfield G. Ross, 75, of Soule St., South Portland, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 12, at a Portland hospital.
He was born in Monticello, a son of Miles Ervin Ross and Mary Porter Ross, Brother of Audrey V Ross (b 1923), Ruth Y , Clara E , Marcella D , Gloria L (b 1934), Eugene A (b 1936) and Doreen S (b 1938)

He was educated in the Monticello schools and was a graduate of Bridgewater Academy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Naval Air Force. Garfield enlisted in the Army October 30, 1942 and was released from service on December 21, 1945
He was a service officer for the American Legion.
Mr. Ross was a member of the First Baptist Church of Branford, Conn., was a deacon and past president of the Men's fellowship at the church and was a member of the Kennebunk Rotary Club, the Houlton Grange and was associated with the Boy Scouts in several capacities. He was the owner and CEO of Term Rental and Leasing Systems for many years, a company which had locations in Worcester, Mass., New York City, N.Y., and Philadelphia, Pa., retiring in 1986.
Mr. Ross was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a training counselor and on the field support team. In his retirement he was very active with the NRA in certifying instructors who are members of the Fish and Game Clubs in Maine and Connecticut. He was a camp counselor for Riflerey in Kabeyun Camp for Boys in Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. He instructed boys from the age of eight to 16 in the safe handling of firearms and recreational shooting. He was awarded the Man of the Year Award by the Hamden, Conn. Fish and Game Club in 1996.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Madolin C. Rogers Ross of South Portland who he married on June 25, 1949 ; one daughter, Mrs. Peter (Deborah) Anderson of Rockport, Mass.; one son, David B. Ross of Portland; two brothers, Eugene Ross of Newport News, Va.; five sisters, Ruth Kuehnel and Gloria Elkins of St. Louis, Mo., Clara Bickford, Marcella Beals and Doreen Bailey, all of Houlton; two grandchildren, Kristy Mulkern and Kelly Mulkern of Rockport, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the First united Methodist Church of South Portland. The Rev. Kathleen Townes will officiate.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Boy Scouts of America Campership Fund, 125 Auburn St., Portland, Maine 04103.
Arrangements are by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 College Road, South Portland, Maine 04106.
