Lewis Vaughn Rinehart joined Our Heavenly Father's choir Tuesday, April 25, 2006, while at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Vaughn was born in Ontario, Ohio, Sept. 18, 1929, to the late Lewis and Gertrude Rinehart. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1950 with a Bachelor's Degree in Dairy Science. He worked in the dairy business in many different capacities, ultimately owning and operating his own cattle hoof-trimming business.

Vaughn married Margaret Eleanor Brook on Oct. 11, 1953. They shared a life together for almost 53 years. Together they had eight children, and have 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family moved to Statesville in 1976.

Vaughn was a faithful follower of Christ and was a member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church. He enjoyed singing, worshiping, square-dancing, and fellowship with his church and family. His voice brought inspiration, joy and comfort to many people, and through the years he was a member of several choral groups, including The Alleluias, The Mellow Dears, The Columbia Choral Society, Jolly Seniors, Senior Serenaders, and many church and community choirs through the years. He was also a member of Statesville Elk's Lodge Number 1823 and participated in Statesville Community Theater.

Vaughn is survived by his wife, Eleanor; six children: Charles Lewis and his wife, Mary, of Maryland; Diana Jayne, Michael Alan and Stephen John of Statesville, Sheila Ruth Allsbury and her husband, Scott, of Charlotte; Julia Anne Johnson and her husband, Hank, of Statesville; grandchildren: Katie Lynn of Maryland; Christina Marie Adkins and her husband, Darby, of York, S.C.; Kenneth Vaughn Hipp of Mooresville; Stephanie Michelle Hipp of Charleston, S.C.; April Samantha, Matthew Ryan, Ashley Nicole and Jonathon Charles Oliver of Statesville; William Lewis and Gregory Scott Allsbury of Charlotte; Philip McGregor Kay of Statesville; Bethany Elizabeth Stacey and her husband, Lawrence, of Troutman; and Adam Hank Johnson of Statesville; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Christian Johnson, Savannah Shea and Reagan Faye Stacey of Troutman; Rebecca Madison Quarles of Charleston, S.C.; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

Vaughn was preceded in death by two daughters, Bonita Elaine Rinehart and Maria Yvonne Kay of Statesville; two brothers, Oliver and Jay Rinehart of Ohio and three sisters, Sylva Eckstein, Ilo Burger, and Alice Walker of Ohio.

The family will assemble at 422 Holland Circle and will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home Friday, April 28, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday, April 29, at 9:30 a.m., the family will gather at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home for procession to graveside services that will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Iredell Memorial Park and Chapel Mausoleum at 2304 Shelton Avenue.

Pallbearers will be Charles Rinehart, Michael Rinehart, Stephen Rinehart, Hank Johnson, Scott Allsbury, Ken Hipp, Matthew Oliver and Philip Kay. Darby Adkins, Archie Johnson, Johnny Oliver and Lawrence Stacey will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Following graveside services, a memorial service and fellowship luncheon will be held at Christ Boulevard Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. to honor and celebrate the life of Vaughn Rinehart. The Rev. Jim Reeves and the Rev. Dennis Rinehart will be officiating.
